will a bike engine be competitive?

I am building a CMC locost 7, mainly for
autocrossing. In the Dmod class there is a
1000lb. min. weight and 2000cc max. engine size. I have only seen one BEC and it did poorly. Could a busa, zx12, or R1 powered 7 keep up with a Honda S2000 powered 7?
thanks Bob

Welcome Bob.

Competitive? Possibly. What is autocrossing-excuse my ignorance, but due to the fact that you mention CMC, and S2000 engines, I'm guessing USA and I think that autocrossing has a different kind of racing attached to it when compared to the British version....

If the type of racing you are looking at comprises of tight corners, and short/medium straights, and you can get the car ON the minimum weight, I personally think it would be very competitive. A standard Busa is approx 50 bhp behind an S2000 motor (both in standard trim), but I doubt a Honda powered car will come close to the minimum weight, which would be your advantage. And you will have a nice sequential gearbox too.....

Yes I am in the USA. Autocrossing is a course laid out with cones to give you 20 or more corners and some slaloms in a 50 second run for time. Top speed is usually less than 80mph. There are some cars at min. weight, but a S2000 honda motor probably adds 150 lbs, plus the transmission.

A BEC's main strength is its awesome acceleration. Coupled with a low(ish) top speed on track, I reckon you could be onto a winner....
