Normal is getting dressed in clothes that you buy for work and driving through traffic in a
car that you are still paying for - in order to get to the job you need to pay for the clothes
and the car, and the house you leave vacant all day so you can afford to live in it.

I always thought rally cars used wastegates not dump-valves?

umm. might do, as far as i know (or remember) wastegates are different to dumpvalves. Dump valves prevent backspinning of the turbo by keeping inlet
pressure below exhaust pressure, i believe that a wastegate relates to bleeding excess inlet manifold pressure regardless of the pressure in the
exhaust - this is what limits the car to say 11psi or whatever
might be complete bollox though

Thought the dump valve was to get rid of the pressure quickly when the throttle is lifted off. i.e. dump the pressure. also gives the the pishhh
sound when changing gear and the valve opens an vents the pressure to the exaust?

That's right, now I can't remember whether they have both or not.
Oh and on that sound recording I'm nearly positive the whining noise is a straight cut gearbox, and the engine sounds like a v12 to my ears.

Paxman Vallenta - Powerplant for HST's (train).
Full power with the turbo screaming sounds nice but a bit load...
Also the engine fitted to the Deltic's (another train) - cylinders in a delta configuration gives a very pleasing engine note.
Not a train spotter - Just worked in the indusrty for 18 years....

my kawasaki kh250 two stroke triple sounded pretty good last month after spending 6 months on a complete restoration and engine rebuild.
the enjoyment was slightly marred by the fact i almost lost the use of my legs kicking the fecking thing over trying to get it to start!

Also, teh best sounding car during the grand prix yesterday - the Merc safety car! What a noise. Actually similar to the COrvettes I should be
listening to at LeMans later this week.
