And a big well done from me.

Did you get any signatures towards losing the big X? I presume race two you wouldn't get one, but did your bollicking for race one stop a sig?

Great right up and dont worry about your first race results, ITS YOUR FIRST RACE!

Your living the dream. I was nervous reading your report.

Good luck next time round and keep up the reports.

Here are my first ever race videos, fairly embarrassed looking back how sloppy it was, but hey ho… first time and all that.

Race 1
A few hairy moments with Ed Scotney at 53s and a nice tussle with Colin Spicer at 3m 12s along with a few offs, and a few catches, particularly proud of my catch and hold of a decent slide at Montreal corner at 11m 39s
Annoyed at myself, at getting called up to see the CofC and not getting a signature considering all the times all four wheels left the circuit were at relatively low speeds and were totally avoidable
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0AA_H6ynN0

Race 2
A much better, but no means perfect start for me, in that I didn't stall.
Unfortunately race was cut incredibly short before the first corner with my gear cable snapping leaving me stuck in 3rd gear, I tried to grip the cable and push & pull it by hand, but it wasn't going to happen.

Early retirement and a DNF for me.

Best Lap - 2:05.64 (misted up GoPro highly annoying)

I noticed it is running a blade style swaybar. If possible could you tell me the dimensions (Length and thickness) and manufacturer.

Just watched the first video and very impressed. You've got the ability, you’ve got the car, but most importantly you have the race awareness and track courtesy that without could have caught out a lesser driver. Great start, I know you wont be satisfied “that’s the racer in you” but really think there is good things ahead for you. Ace!!!!!!

Thanks for all the words of encouragement guys - it does mean a lot.

I came home feeling pretty chuffed until I watched the videos back.

"why did I go wide there? brake there?"
"why didn't i turn in earlier?"
"why didn't I overtake when I had the opportunity?"
"coming off the track seems so avoidable when watching it back"

Hey ho - onwards and upwards like you all say… I'll learn a lot from the weekend… and move forward.

Next up guys is Rockingham on Saturday 5th July

I'll update later as I'm off down the garage tonight to remove paddle shift & gear cabling, in order to put a stick in, need to do some welding… also getting rid of the foam seat… it just wasn't for me!

one thing I have found from watching videos from trackdays... it doesnt give you a true idea of whats going on.

I watch them and think, 'blood hell how early was i braking?!?!' but in reality, im standing on the brakes with everything I've got and still thinking I wasnt going to make the corner!

It's what you feel is right in the car at the time, not what it looks like in the video

Great report, well done, looking forward to watching the videos

Before you ditch the paddles, have you considered fitting a rod arrangement rather than cables? made mine with a rod
and its uber direct, click click click up or down. dead easy on the fingers too.

Only downside i can see is in the event of a big crash its something else that could potentially spear you.

keep up the good work, whens the next outing?

Al.

Rods from paddles going to an engine in the rear sounds like a right PITA lol

Paddles are now off and near the bin lol will go up for sale soon… along with the 3.5metre gear cable lol
