New power commander v auto tune

Looks very interesting for bec's,the power commander will self tune to what ever air/fuel mixture ratio you set, looking around 500 pounds with lambna sensor and all the bits you need.
Could make the need for rolling road dyno testing obsolete.

Megasquirt and JAW will do that for 1/2 the price.

I suppose power commanders give tuning options but I do wonder why people stick with these when you can junk the factory stuff and go to the dark side, losing security restrictions and the like on the way.

Taken direct from the official dynojet site:

(Note: PCV’s will only be available for 2009 model year motorcycles)

So sadly no use for anyone with an B.E.C. with an engine older that 2009

Just looked at the website and it does indeed state that the autotune will only be available for 2009 model bikes, I would hope that if there was enough interest they will roll this out for older models, time will tell.

These guys have the PC5 for older bikes.

http://hardracing.com/PowerCommand.htm

Go about 1/2 way down the page and there's a list of bike manufacturers, follow the link to see what is available and what is in stock.

Ive just ordered a Rotrex blower for my R1. I already have a PC3 on there and was going to add knock control, but feel with PC5 and Autotune it should do a better job of avoiding knock.

Has anyone here got experience with the PC5 + Autotune?

Here's a good video... read the description in the video

I do like the idea of it tuning itself but reading on here you don't leave autotune running all the time, is that normal i thought the whole point of it is that it's always tuning... maybe i'm understandung it wrong!?

Begs the question... why don't Motec, DTA, Omex, etc. offer an autotune function (other than to not upset all their affiliated tuners!).

I think he was trying to show how the autotune works by starting with it turned off then watching it trim for fuel when it is switched on.

I have no experience with this system but I understand that you:
1. load a base map.
2. set an authority (by %ge) that the auotune is allowed to trim the fuel.
3. Run the engine and log the trim.
4. Accept the trimmed value and re-load the table.

EDITED - just read the comments on the second page... he says that it doesnt trim well when decelerating at part throttle, which is why he leaves it switched off.

hmm...

I was just reading the comments on that youtube link i posted.

"I still don't understand why the auto tune cant just be left on 100% of the time? Ppl tell me if you leave it on it will give you a bad map, I don't understand how that could be if its always tuning??"

Reply-"It will give you a bad map because when you decelerate with an open throttle, it will tune the engine still as if you were on the gas. No system should alter the fuel map when decelerating.

Nobody ever slaps their throttle shut *every* time they decelerate, so the Autotune keeps getting its knickers in a twist. Folks have fitted vacuum-controlled switches in-line so that the Autotune is deactivated whenever intake vacuum is high"

Hmmmm indeed, it doesn't work how i'd imaged it to!

Been doing some more reading up on this, and you are right Crafty with how you discribed it.

and it's has had good reviews on the bike forums.

With the only available for the 09 it's not entirely true, as for my engine (09 ZX14) they also work from the 06 right up to current year.

read on ZX14 forum that a guy with a 07 bike called them and was told they were trying to get rid of the old PC3 stock!!

i'm going to order the PCV with autotune from the US as i've got some good prices

Apparently in some occasions it gives false readings and over compensates when backing off the throttle too fast.

In order to get around this, some guys have fitted a vacuum switch hooked up to the autotune function, when you back off the throttle it switches the autotune off.

Ive got a supercharger on the way.

I'm going to fit the PC5 and a J&S Safeguard

http://www.jandssafeguard.com/VampirePage/Vampire.html

The PC5 is a piggy back for the fuel system. Wideband adjusts fuel to meet the target AF ratio in your tables.

The J&S Safeguard is a piggy back for the ignition system, wired between the ECU and the coils. It has a knock sensor and "listens" to the engine - when it detects knock, it retards the particular cylinder that is experiencing knock. Other knock systems retard all cylinders, some are just warning of knock or logging knock events.

I'm thinking the wideband on fuel and safeguard on ignition will give the security and tunability I am looking for.

I finally bought a pcV and for the extra £115 i also went for the Auto tune, i took the car out with A/T enabaled and the car did feel a lot smoother and a bit more responsive( that could be a mind thing)... and no issues on decelaration

These are the A/T Default AFR settings obviously they are designed for a bike not a BEC

Do you think it would be worth altering them maybe a bit richer say to 12.5

this is a map that is started to alter with the trims from A/T
