Bike Powered Mini
Hi All,
Well I have brought a Mini and decided that a Bike Powered Mini is more for me.
Now my question is if I convert it to rear wheel drive (front engine) do I have to do an SVA? Will I be able to keep the plate if I make custom front
and rear sub frames? (I really can't remember the point system).
Cheers,
O

Hi Stuart
Cheers mate, but it doesn't really answer my question. I am not re-shelling it I am just cutting a tunnel and making custom front a rear sub
frames, plus different hubs and a different diff, and brakes! lol. (not much )

i, know it is not the same, but that is all i could find which has been smilar to what i have been looking for.
well i would have throught as you are not changing the chassis or body work, you would not need to sva it, but then to change the log book, it might
be to much to change.
unless you do it in stages such as say it is rwd one month and change the engine no the next, so it does not pull to much attetion to it.
as it says a bit of a grey area.but there must be somebody out there how knows the answer.
p.s. and you are changing the drive and engine.lol
once i get a mini, i am make a custom front subframe, so you might be getting a few u2u sent your way.lol

They could be age related plates, though

good bit in this months PPC mag to maintain origional identity and avoid SVA need 8 points or higher, from: 5 for origional body shell, 2 for
suspension, 2 for axles (not one for front and one for rear all standard or no points), 2 for transmission 2 for steering assembly and 1 for engine.
in this account and from reading artical a motorbike rear wheel drive mini may be difficult as i read it will get 5 for shell and 2 for stearing and
thats it

The Z-Cars owner himself says SVA is required, but plenty don't bother.
I guess removing half the floor doesn't count as original 'unmodified' chassis
To be fair it is a reasonably radical mod converting to RWD. I guess you could ring your local SVA center and ask their opinion.

The Mac#1 mini was built by Nick Mossop (shogun969) on here
It uses an early ZX9R engine under the bonnet and a sierra diff in the rear.
Mac#1 supplied the engine cradle and rear chassis sections, wishbones etc, The rest of the work was all done by Nick.Image deleted by owner

There's a kitcar magazine guide somewhere on the web (i saw the link on here IIRC) that says they changed the wording to 'unaltered'
monocoque to stop some kits using just the donor floorpan etc.

I suppose as it still is a mini, it has been treat as a modification albeit a big one rather than a conversion so has'nt been subject to SVA
just an MOT and a change of engine size and No on the V5, but thats just a guess. Maybe a u2u to Nick may answer any questions
