Speedo Clock dilemma

I guess this is a last ditch attempt to try to extract information about our 'blade clocks.

We have a pre '95 blade engine that used the sprocket to collect a signal to use for the speedo. My question is merely this:
Has anyone out there in locostbuilder-land adapted the original clocks to function correctly by using an alternative pickup to the one on the sprocket.

We have seriously hit a wall one this one lads, and any help would be really appreciated. We would rather not use the Halfords bike speedo, indeed we are contemplating fitting a 'digidash' if we really need to - but the cost is an obvious mute point at the moment.

Any electronics boff's out there that could even point us in the right direction would be great.

Did you try posting this on the 'electrics' forum? I'm sure there's a couple of guys on there that could help you.

Have you also tried the Yahoo BEC forum? Again, I'm pretty sure this has been covered at some point.

IIRC - the bolts that hold the flanges together can be used as a pick-up for the speedo, but it does involve some electronic fettling to get it to work, which I know nothing about!

Hi

As I see it if you want to stick with the same clocks you have two main option.

I am not sure what type of sensor it is can you provide a picture. I assume that it is a hall effect sensor and hence senses magnetic field as a ferrous metal passes near by.

One as tadltd suggest try mounting the sprocket sender on another part of the car an pick the pulses up there however you will have the problem of maintaining the same ratio of sprocket turns to distance travelled. To do this to can try making up a to the weal that is mounded on the drive some where with a correct number of teeth to provide the same number of pulses per unit distance travelled.

Or option two you can make up some electronics that count the pulses provided from the sensor from the sprocket and only give out a pulse say every 5 pulses from the sprocket. I can make one of these up for you and it should be very easy. However I will need to know what tip of sensor it is for sure.

or I could a new sensor and just provide the pulses to the existing clocks this may be a better option as with the sprocket bolted to a drive shat it may throw the existing sensor out deepening on its type and function.
