Best value engine for £1500

Not really a new topic I know but now I have taken the plunge to start a BEC midi project (converting an ex supersport racer to Bike power) I need to finalise and buy an engine kit.

Based around an engine kit budget of approx £1500 what will give the best mix of power v’s reliability v’s price?

I was originally thinking blackbird but at approx 160bhp am I gaining anything over a similar priced Blade engine or R1?

At this price point is a older higher mileage Busa worth the risk or am I just asking for trouble

Anyone got anything intrestng for sale?

Nemesis ?

Because the one I saw ebay looked ripe for a bike conversion seeing as the Dallara gearbox seems more of a liability than anything else.

Anyway, if not that, what chassis. Because I love proper sports racing cars.

You'll be very lucky to get a Busa engine for £1,500. There was one on here not so long back but I know it was snapped up.

For power v reliability v price, I'd go for either the ZX10R or ZX12R.

Phil

Nemesis it is

Yep that’s the one I got. Nice straight looking chassis and body but I need to fabricate new suspension. Plan is to make a rear subframe to carry engine, chain diff and suspension and bolt this to the mid section using the same points that would have been used to hold the original engine and transaxle

So on the needed list; engine kit, chain diff, fabricated front and rear uprights

Just bought a ZX12R (178hp) from Malc at Yorkshire-engines for just over your budget.

Don't forget extras like sump mods.

Other option I was offerded was R1, which I'm told most only need baffled sumps.

Does the £1,500 include, exhaust manifold, power commander (if injected and SVA/IVA pass needed), air filter ? Should be able to mod the standard exhaust for a midi though.

I like the 02/03 injected R1 and yes only a baffle plate needed.

Would you need a dry sump with a Busa if going in a midi, maybe not, but it would be worth fitting a baffle plate.

No personal experience of the ZX12, but it's relatively cheap and very powerful, Kawasaki have always produced stonking power.

u2u Welderman, he has a busa for sale.
