New Builder
Hi,
Thought I'd say hello. 
I have just started building an MK Indy R - collected the kit plus parts from MK last wednesday.
Engine is an '05 R1 from Yorkshire Engines.
Have realised that preparing the donor parts is a right pain!
I have started a build diary - mostly for my own reference in the future, but available on the link below.

Good luck! There was a thread on here the other day about cleaning donor parts - soak them in a bucket of vinegar overnight, then scrub with a wire
brush, rinse off all the vinegar and bake them for 30 minutes to dry them all out.
Works brilliantly! Vinegar is 26p a litre in Sainsbury's - way cheaper than the rust removal stuff and works even better! Makes the garage stink
like a chip shop though!!

Welcome... Its Mad on here!...
Ask plenty of questions, and use the search facility. most things have been done several times over.
I found this site most useful when I started my kit 4 years ago. I am still here!
Made some good friends, and we all meet up in the summer at the kit car shows. Its all good fun..
Take you time, and get it right, and do a good job. The end result is well worth it. It also helps maintain the value of your car.

Hehe, I am sure - have been looking forward to building it since prior to ordering the kit.
Tried to set-up electrolysis to do some of the more rusty parts - after reading some of the posts on here about it - although think the points of
electrical connection need a bit more cleaning up as was not working so well earlier. Job for tomorrow night I think!

Hello and welcome! Consider a home powder coating kit. It's ridiculously cheap to do and in ten minutes your part is ready to bolt on.
It's the single best tool (if you can call it that ) I have bought.

rather than electrolysis why don't you try the malt vinegar trick and leave your part submerged in tesco's cheap as chips malt vinegar,
softens all the rust and it just peels off

You will need an electric oven. I have done loads of stuff on my car like engine mounts,header tank brackets, gear linkage assy, grill, filter plate,
battery box, petrol tank filler and loads of other stuff ive forgot.
