R1 engine noise - please help

Dear readers, in this thread I rant about my current trials and tribulations with my car. Weighing on my mind at the moment is a new engine noise. It sounded like the metal "pea" in a spray can, making a "clack" perhaps every second or 2. The noise sounded like it was coming from the top of the head.

This evening, I have removed the rocker cover and inspected everything, including the valve clearances. Everything looks really good. I even ran the engine without the cover but it didn't make the noise, though the engine was of course cold.

I'd be very grateful for your suggestions of what it could be or what to do next. Thank you all for taking the time to read about my woes.

No help at all sorry

Hi there
Does it still do it if you push the clutch down? or when you select a gear?
Nothing rattling in the can giving the impression its higher up?

Magic as said by a depressed Rodney Trotter

A quick update on the main thread. The rattle does seem to be cam chain related, though the tensioner turns and springs back on the screwdriver thing just fine.

Where do I go from here to find the source of the problem with the chain?
