Going on a trip. Is 100 miles too long in a VortX

I´m going to visit a friend friday.
He´s about 100 miles away.
Is it ok to go on such a long trip in a new VortX ?
Ill bring tools to fix things that might come loose and do a check when I get there.
It could also be a good "burn in test" before I´m going to the track in 4 weeks time ?

Any input ?

i drove 200 miles only a few days after my sva as i wanted to go to stoneleigh kit car show.

I'll be going on a tour in May where I'll be covering about 1000 miles in 3 days in a BEC - apart from needing some decent warm kit, helmet and tools it should be OK

As per the other posts, warm clothes, tools & plan some nice stopping places, and you'll be fine.

It's a great way to get to know the car, too, if you haven't driven it for a bit.

The question is; did you build it to look at or drive
would you ride a bike 100 miles?

Put the right clothes on & DO IT !!!

always worth having breakdown recovery
though, same as you would in tin top.

i would reccomend paying close attention to the sprocket adapter to prop shaft bolts.

You will have a blast, do it.
I have done journeys in my Vortx of that distance, no problem.

If your not sure about 100 miles at road speeds do you really trust it on the track? I would say the road miles are essential.

I did my 'burn in test' at the track before SVA then drove 160 miles the day after registration.

No Problemo

I would suggest to soften the suspension though a bit and get a pillow for your bottom.

I drove 100 miles, did a track day and drove 100 back in my Indy the other week!

If you built it then you should be confident you can sort minor things on the road side. The more miles you do the more reliable it will become. I'm always finding little things such as cables rubbing or even simply adjusting the pedals for comfort.

Coincidentally yesterday I took my car on a 120 mile round trip after changing the clutch and replacing the front brake lines and re-building the calipers.

Everything was going great as I've stripped the car several times and identify things simply from feel or sound. However just as I was leaving the the M5 I complelely lost the clutch pedal! Now what do you do, gamble its simply come adrift an re-attach it at the road side or has it broken and if you stop you're stranded?

I chose to continue and managed to drive about 20 miles through a couple of villages missing major junctions in 5th (light cars are great).

Looking under the car the cable had simply jumped out of the clutch arm. Never happended before in 4 years until I changed the clutch cover plate to one with a higher clamping force. I've now secured the cable so it won't happen again.

Ive driven 4000 MILES in a car costing 150 uk pounds in a two week period..............and the way it looks if a fellow dane doesnt get his finger out a small delivery drive in a bec all the way to sweden

100 miles chicken feed........get in it and drive it like you stole it

Last year I did a 2000+ mile trip across europe in my (then new) R1 Fury and will be doing a similar trip this year.

Plenty of short trips will highlight problems. Keep an eye on anything that can work loose (ideally put a paint marker on mission critical items such as prop, suspension and steering fastenings) so that you can quickly see if nuts/bolts have loosened.

Oh and make sure you have good breakdown cover.

A hose for the oilcooler came loose and I lost all the oil so had to go home again after only 15 miles.

Does anybody know where to get a floatswitch that turns on a warninglamp when the oillevel in the swirltank is low ?
