Paddleshift spring question?
I have a cable paddleshift on the Motaleira which works, but is it supposed to return to midway position?
I seem to be getting very slight drag on the cable (8ft long with one long bend)which is stopping the gearlever returning to the idle position (hope
that makes sense.)
It doesn't affect gear selection.
Have any of you put springs to help yours return?

I have a cable and a stick shift connected at the same time and have no issues.
But i did to start with.
Check the entry/exit points to the cable ends that is what caused mine too much angle at the entry/exit at the paddle end.
edit: no spring on mine

They are straight. I think that it is just the length of the cable.
The drag is not that severe. I am thinking of putting a spring either side of the paddle to help centralise it.

I had a similar problem with mine it turned out to be the little rubber boots/dust covers at each end dragging after i wiped the grease off! worth a
try just pull the boots back out the way and see if it makes any difference.
If not it looks like springs are your only option.

I've just had a thought.
Will having return springs affect my flatshifter? Will it think that the cable is being operated?

R1......I saw your thread. Good luck with fixing yours. It looks a bit more involved than mine.
I'm just waiting on a couple of return springs to be posted to me, so that I can just clip them either side of my paddle.

Well I think I sorted it!
Thanks for the advice on the boots locoR1.
Some copperease under them helped a lot. Springs helped a bit more.
I had some issues selecting gears but I played around with the cable outer adjuster as it was limiting the travel in 1st gear one way or 2nd upwards
the other way.
There is a sweet spot in between.
