R1 5VY fuel pump

quick question, i'm using the bike pump mounted in the bottom of my tank, at what point does it start working? as soon as you turn the ignition on? Is it noisy i.e. can you here it?
There isn't any petrol in yet so haven't tested it yet but I turned the ignition on earlier and never heard anything.

mine wasnt making any noises, priming nothing. all the wiring was right so i tryd using a power probe to get it to work and sure enough after a few blips on the live it primed up so it was just that it hadnt been used and needed a jump start to bring it to life.

I didn't think I had any codes but I do remember seeing a 30 on the clocks? I'll have a look at the manual and see if the 30 was an error code i.e. in the right place on the lcd.
I'll fix my filler hose and cap on tomorrow and throw some petrol in.

Thanks chaps
