1300 Crossflow Max Power?

As standard, the 1300 Xflow is supposed to have 58bhp. What is the maximum that can be squeezed from this unit with its current bore size?

Would be handy to have a bhp value against each power modification if poss.

Kindest Regards,
Richard.

That would depend entirely on how much money you have to spend!

Fair point, but im talking about Locost, which would mean porting on a bench at home, grinding and balancing at home etc.

My old 1300 engine with GT head was a +60 bore and gave out approx 90bhp measured by the local rolling road.

Not an extreme level of tune, and was put together by myself (although I had the bottom end checked and balanced by "professionals"

In extremis, apparently 145bhp at 9000rpm is possible!

Holy sh*t - I dread to think what that cost!

My old man's previous car (pics in archive; ij al) also a classic clubmans car as above had a 1300 producing 135bhp from memory. That was on standard rods and crank too. Again it revved to silly figures. Worth going to see the classic clubmans in action just to see how quick you can make a car go with a crossflow! (And lot's of £££s mind)

Sorry, not a lot of use but of mild interest

Something along the lines of a chambered head, powermax pistons, considerably larger valves with port modifications to match, cosworth A6 camshaft, big DCOE carbs and allowing it to rev to dangerous figures, amongst other things...

They're just ticking bombs really, especially some of the supposed 200bhp 1700s. Sound good though

I think Burtons have a list of mods in their crossflow section on their website which should help to see which mods are giving greatest gains. Phone 'em up!

PPC have been running a series of articles on fitting a blower to, I think, a 1300 and are hoping for 150 BHP. Could do worse than checking it out. Cheers Ray

To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy

Any reason why you have to stick with a 1300 rather than a 1600?
