coolant flush - advice/guide please
hi everyone. Last year I had an exspansion tank cap fail on me causing me to loose pressure and allow my r1 Indy to wet itself loosing a liter or so
of coolant. Having replaced the cap and topping up the water with coolant my water seems to have gone brown. Speaking to a friend this seems to be
because I used normal garage tap Water rather than ironized or something like that.
Anyone tell me what I should use in future and also a guide on how to flush and refill. It's a 5pw engine, Ali header tank, silicone hoses and a

Yep, tap water is no good! You need to buy the de-ionized water from your local motor factors and mix with a good quality anti freeze/rust
inhibitor.
Best way to cleanse the system is to thoroughly flush with a low pressure water source (Garden hose). You could reverse flush as well if you really
feel the need!

Is it just a simple case of undoing the lowest hose and letting it run out?
What about where the thermostat is, wont that only allow part of the mixture to run out and retain some? Do I run any risks in making air blocks in
the water system etc?

Hi, Just remove lower hose from water pump and that should get the majority of it out and then flush with a hose into the expansion tank. On refilling
i let it warm up slowly with the cap off and squeeze all the hoses to push any trapped air about. When its cold and on high up hoses i undo the
jubilee then remove till water flows out and then push it back on and tighten, makes a mess but should get it all out.
