Oil Catch tank size?
Following on from discussions over crankcase breathing and oil problems on the R1, I want to fit a catch tank.
Unlike the locost, the Motaleira R1 is set the same way around as on the bike.
One of the reasons I think that the engine is more prone to damage on a locost is because when cornering, the oil is thrown up against the crankcase
breather and is sucked into the inlet manifold. This means that the pistons hydraulic and breaks the rods.
I don't think that it will be as bad on my car as the only way it can reach the breather (at the back of the engine) is under acceleration, but
seeing that it does this on a bike, then I don't see it as an issue.
As a precaution I would like to fit a "proper" catch tank like you would use for motorsport, not one of these cheap 1/4 litre jobbies.
I will probably make one but I need some advice on the correct capacity for the R1 engine.
Although I am not racing the car, it would be nice to get the correct size as required under racing regulations.
So what capacity should I aim for?
Cheers Martin

I think for circuit racing you'll find it's 2l for MSA events, will check the blue book...

...yup section (G) - 116 + 117 of the 2008 book state that they have to be a minimum of 2l capacity for up to 2000cc engines and that they should me
made of a translucent plastic or have an inspection panel if not.
