Barnett Spring fitting...
R1 (2003) should be on the road in the next 2 weeks.
Id like to fit some Barnett springs as ive been old they will improve the clutch and drivability.
Whats involved to fit them, any tips, where to buy them from, any other parts needed to fit them?

I guess you haven't had a chance to look at the R1 clutch or to read the haynes manual clutch section....
Your age R1 does not have a coil spring clutch where you can upgrade to barnett heavy duty springs. It has a spring diaghram (basically a dished piece
of circular steel) that acts as the spring.
You have 2 choices
1) Add a second diaghram
2) Use a Barnett clutch conversion kit.
The later converts you clutch to a clutch plate with 6 coil springs (like most other engines). I have used the later on two cars and it works well.
Cost is around £120.
Cheers

Ran mine with just the standard clutch for the first year with no problems, then started to get slight clutch slip, so doubled up on the diaghram
spring.
Three years on and its still on the original Yamaha clutch clutch

I put a Barnett clutch conversion in mine - very pleased with it.
Adds some weight to the clutch, makes it more drivable and haven't had any slip.
I used the standard plates following advice from people on here.

I pressume i need to replace the gearbox gasket as well?
First drive should be next Tuesday weather permitting, my only concern - no clutch feel or bite
