R1... first drive today

Took the R1 for its first drive today (MOT centre).

Amazing

But... Oil pressure lamp kept illuminating on DigiDash. What should the tick over pressure be and what should i set the alarm at?
At the MOT centre, the oil level window shows its 3/4tr full.

I set the Digidash Oil Pressure Alarm to 25psi and it still flashes up accoasionally whilst driving?
Also have RPM/PSI set at 3500rpm & AUX PSI Alarm at 0psi

So if 6psi is right, why do i get an alarm?

Could well be around the 25psi mark at 3500rpm when hot so that'd explain it. Oil presure lags slightly behind the revs when accelerating. Alter the alarm to 20psi and see what happens.

Pressure sensor has been tapped into the water pump housing, which cools the oil too!

I must be late because i would have thought setting to a lower pressure would cause the alarm to flash. A drop in pressure would be an alarm sign?

Guys...

Done 70 miles today, and whenever the car is crawling in traffic, the Oil Pressure warning displays on the DigiDash.

Do i need to increase the rpm/psi warning at 3500rpm?

Any advise?? if i set it up wrong, sods law says one day the pressure will drop and bang goes the engine.

I don't know about the Digidash, as I have a Koso unit and individual oil pressure gauge and warning light, but since I can not even set the warning against a set RPM, I am prepared that the oil pressure warning will be always on at idle, or low engine speeds.
You set the rpm to 3500, does the warning only come on once over 3500? It could be that at 3500 the engine still only produces quite a low pressure.
Have you tried slowly raising your revs to see the pressures you see? When the oil pressure picks up, take that rpm as the warning limit. Anything under that should not be very important.
By the way, I have a warning set at 1.2 bar which is 17 psi. i really only need to know that something is wrong when on the track, but then I need to know it very early...

On a second note, are you sure that the oil pressures you see are normal? It could well be that if you measure pressure after the oil filter / cooler, there is not enough pressure really - filter blocked for example. I don't think this is the case, but worth thinking about...
I hope this helps...
Gergely

there are two different oil alarms on the digidash setup.

O.I.L message is for mechanical switch (that you have no control over)
O.P.A message is for oil pressure alarm (part of the dash software)

I have the same issue at idle, which has been made worse by using fully synthetic oil when the viscosity drops at higher temperatures. This is not a problem in my opinion as it disappears when i blip the throttle or drive the car normally.

Not sure why you are seeing it while driving normally other than the bulb could be faulty? What alarm messag are you seeing?

Cheers
Paul.

I pressume, i need to set the psi from 20 to about 5psi?

Hi, have you looked here?

Page 21

Not sure how old your dash unit is, but I reckon it may be pretty old?

Try setting it to 10psi at 3k and see if it goes away. Personally I wouldn't have it too low just incase

Paul

I agree, 10 psi sounds about right.
The light might still come on at idle, but should not come on when on the move.

Which R1 motor do you have? I may have a service manual for it.

Hi Jon,

I think pressure is fairly linear with rpm from what I have seen, approx 6.5 psi/1k. So at 3.5k you should see 23psi. The 04 & 07 manuals spec 33psi/2.3bar @ 5k and as you know 1k idle for most is some close to 6psi. All with hot oil.
