how far does an R1 clutch lever arm move?

As above, I am trying to work out if the clutch travel is right.

By clutch lever arm I mean the one coming from the clutch cover. Engine is a 2000 5JJ R1.

Currently its maybe 50-60 degrees or so.

The pedal feels initially heavy then much lighter near end of the pedal travel. Is this the norm for a BEC clutch?

Thanks

James

Just been and had a measure on my bike 2001 5jj

With the clutch engaged (lever not pulled) the arm and cable are 80 degrees to one another.

Pull the clutch and the lever moves 30 degrees, so the cable and lever are at 120 degrees.

Lever is constant pressure and smooth all the travel.

Hope that helps
Pete.

Brilliant, thanks!

I have setup my clutch cable differently to how it is on a bike, I have made a bracket to go on the closest engine mount, so in effect the cable pull is 270 degrees to the original route (towards the front of the bike).

Seems that I get a bit more lever travel and it goes light towards the end of the travel - is it possible to pull the clutch too far and damage anything?

Thanks,

James

dont know about bikes but to much travel can damage a car clutch.

I think I am going to try an adjustable pedal stop. I suppose I will only find out once I get it off the axle stands!

Thanks

I must definitely have too much travel then.

When I took the car to the SVA for the first time, the way I had put the clutch lever and pedal meant the examiner was just taking up the slack. oops...
