Setting up carbs
Hi Guys
My 95 carb blade engine has been jetted but has not been on a dyno, is that the best way of getting them set up? the guy i bought the car off said it
was running lean and to be honest i am just scared of doing some damage to the heads. Can i adjust them myself ?

Yes. But it depends on how you're going to assess the mixture. Best option (unless you've got access to a rolling road) would be a
wideband lamda sensor which you can connect to a laptop to use as a data logger (the innovate software is quite useful here). Then you can try and
work out what modifications are needed.

You should be able to get a good idea of how it's running just by checking the plugs. and by how it feels
If you do a plug chop, ie run it for 1/2 mile at 3/4 - full throttle, clutch in, kill the engine roll to a layby type thing.
Pull a plug out and see how it looks.
If it's light sand it could be weak,
If so you can raise the needles a notch to richen it.
Thats as scientifiacllay as mine have been set and balanced by ear.
£ years on and on the RR at Newark its doing 120 so it's not far off. 
Yes of course a RR and tune is the way to go, but you can make astart as above.

This is a 30 minute job, which invariably involves the removal of the tank. Not something to be doing in a "Layby"!!

I would only suggest a plug chop to see what mixture was doing at 3/4 to full throttle,
tick over will give you a rough idea what it's doing low down.
