Gear Changed Snapped Help Please.

Got 30 yards up the road today when the gear linkage snapped! Thankfully its up from my house so I rolled gracefully back to the drive.

It looks like a homemade one to me (I didnt build the car) but does any one recognise it from a known kit manufacture?

Otherwise any advice on how or where to fix it, I never welded so would need to get it done somewhere. Hopefully made a little stronger this time....perhaps without the holes!

Thanks!

is it 3mm? Should've been ok tbh, maybe it had got a little stiff and suffered a bit more stress. If its failed once though i wouldnt repair it, just make a slightly stronger copy. What is used for pivots?

If you can't find anyone more local I can weld it back together for you, could it be triangulated to stop future recurrence?

r1_pete, thanks for the offer I will let you know very shortly if I will take you up on it. More than happy offer cold beer tokens for your time.

Triangulation is a great idea! Very easy to do with little holes, I could easily bolt another cross piece in there. Cannot believe i never thought of that myself.

Ah, i assumed the angle was ment to move like a pivot, not that it was welding into an L.

looks like the hole was just to close to the stress line caused by the weld, I was always taught it was rarely the weld that snapped but half an inch either side of it

if your going to just get it welded u might want to think about triangulating it by adding another piece to make it into a triangle (its stronger)
