Getting an R1 into first
Hi can anyone confirm if this is how an r1 bec works. when slowing down from a high gear to a stop it wont go straight into 1st ie from 6th it wont go
5, 4, 3, 2, 1 you have to go to second clutch up then clutch down and find 1st or is it just mine? I know part of my problem could be my paddles as
they flex loads before popping into gear so im making some new ones soon but just wondered if thats how it should be or not.
Cheers

mmmm think it depends mine will go all the way up or down the box and sometimes it wont and needs the clutch up and down to help slot the next
gear in , all my previous bikes were the same edit some kawasakis have a positive neutral finder so from 2nd you only go to neutral and you
need a second push for first

mine will nearly always go all the way down to 1st from 6th with a single push of the clutch, but occasionally i have to release, then re press the
clutch

you dont have to fully lift the clutch. on mine i can half lift it and the gearbox makes a little knock sound, then i know i can fully press the
clutch again, and continue to shift down the rest of the gears.
When going down to 1st just watch your dash, and you should see the neutral light flash briefly when going from 2nd to 1st ( assuming you are using
the original clocks)

my kliktronic shift actuator just bangs through the gears with one push of the clutch. finding neutral can sometimes be an arse though!

mine's the same.
i'd be interested in what you do to modify the paddle shift.
i have the cable and there is a tiny bit of free play - about 2mm before i feel resistance
Time for a change!

Il try lifting the clutch a tad to see if that works or stay with the method of down to second then into first. Mods to the paddleshift will only be
the levers themself just to stop the damn things flexing. Mine are bent to hell after only 100miles. New ones will be solid and thicker steel in one
piece(using old as a templated) rather than 3 pieces.

i replaced mine as the very first thing i did.. they really are a crap design, and bend out of shape very easily.
The new one i made is nigh on the same design except the centre part that pivots on the rose joints is made out of 5mm brushed Stainless, and the
pattles are made from 5mm aluminium, which have been cut down smaller than the originals, the edges rounded, and painted black.
Ill get some piccies tonight of what its like
