I think you will struggle to mount it near the diff, only place would be near the centre bearing or the motor itself.

As has been said you can't mount it at the back like most as the live axle moves, unlike the diff on a IRS car.

Ab performance said that it coul be fitted engine end, but it involves grinding the cases for clearence. Thankfully I passed sva prior to Iva so never had to bother.

Mine is mounted adjacent to the engine. I bought it off ebay a few years back from a guy who had it fitted to a Stuart Taylor locoblade in the RGB series.
It essentially consists of a bike starter motor mounted on a spring-loaded sliding carriage, a ring gear sandwiched between the prop and adaptor and a cable operated lever (which also incorporates a momentary push-button) mounted in the transmission tunnel.
There is also a reduction gear between the starter's output shaft and offset pinion to reverse the direction of the starter.
To operate, I select neutral and then use the lever to pull the motor along it's sliding carriage so engaging the motor's pinion with the ring gear.
I then press the button in the top of the lever which completes a circuit via a remote mounted solenoid, so energising the starter and driving the car backwards.
The reverse is only suitable for a level surface as, due to it only being a bike starter and the car only having a bike battery, there isn't enough torque generated for any sort of incline.
Still, its enough to reverse me back onto my drive without having to get out of the car (which ws the main reason for fitting it.)
If I can't upload pics, there's a couple in my archive.
