Starter motor issues

My Zx9r starter does not always spin.

I can hear the relays click at the battery and the juntion boxes.

I have a new wire from battery relay to starter motor.

But sometimes, it does not work. Any ideas for further investigation.

Cheers
Craig

1st, all connections, check they're clean and tight, a loose connection arcs and soots up causing such problems.

That there is 12+v at the starter motor terminal when you hit the button, if not check the relay - worth checking anyway for continuity when activated.

Then on to more detailed things like brush length, commutator segments bridged and arcing - as well trying to pick up another motor at this point.....

Had a similar problem on mine (albeit car starter).
Checked, cleaned and replaced most of the obvious items but still was intermittent.
Finally took it to a specialist (Burghfield Starter & Alternator Centre - recommended) who reported that half the windings were duff.
Cheapest option (his suggestion) was to buy a new/secondhand one off the 'bay.
HTH.
Cheers, Pewe
