new project part 3
Well
getting into the stripping down of the car now.
thanks to george pointing out the front A arms where upide down pic attached of them,
cant say i am happy with the design if the push rod is on just those 2 welds how long do you think they will last on track???
i think i will have some extra support welded on them to make them stronger before putting back on,
if they where wounted the other way up as they where on the car ie the push rod mounts to the underside of the A arm it would be even worsr in my
opionion.
chssis getting bare now and doing some mods to make it better on track ie new engine cradle to get correct alignment and weld on the side bars
etc,
also will strengthen the front mud guards holder as they apparently are a week point with vibrtion
getting there
still no news on the engine yet hope to here this week,
pic of chassis at this stage also,
got some new body work from mnr to replace stuff with to many holes in
mmm cant seem to post pics??????

Hi mate
Good progress and glad to see you are being so thorough
Regarding the front lower wishbones. I am not saying that the design is good but all if the cars I have seen, including those on the Mnr site all have
the mount on the bottom of the wishbone. Is this what you are doing?
I think this has been chewed over previously.
Cheers

The wishbone should be installed as shown in the picture above. Is this how you are going to fit it?

Without starting another bun fight. Can someone else check with Mnr as that's not how it is on my car or any others I have seen.
I understand the reasoning why it should be above......

No need to check with MNR. If this particular wishbone is turned over, the weight of the car is resting on the circlip that retains the spherical
bearing.
Paublo999, just make sure the circlip is on the underside of you wishbone. If on the top, you MUST change it

that is the most important issue, the mount for the upright MUST be with the circlip underneath.
If it is on top the whole weight of the car under load is held by the circlip.
If that circlip fails, so does your suspension...........
Ideally the mount should be on top of the wishbone, however, the upright mount is more important,
& depending on when the bones were made this could mean that the pushrod mount is underneath.
- not the end of the world- it will be ok
The pushrod mount will be strong enough, plenty of these cars have been regularly tracked & raced.
At the rate you are going the car will be OTR by the end of the month
Looking good mate

Not if, when. The circlip only sits in approx 0.5mm groove

In all fairness, as long as the bones are fitted correctly there
will not be a problem, however, as we know, not all builders
assemble their kits correctly !

Looks like your starting from scratch again Sean
There's still spaces left at Oulton Park for August the 4th
Or failing that we may be doing Oulton Park on the 1st of September, just need to speak with Paul on that one.

yep it will be back to bare chassis and rebuild again,
some mods will be made to the chassis ie engine craddle and some other areas,
the A arms will be refitted with the bar on top this time around as was fitted inderneath previouslly,
was very unsure about the circlip beig the only thing holding that in but looks like others have it that way with no issues?? and will poss speak to
mnr on this one,
will still be addidng additional braciong to them just incase as will be a track car only,
all comes apart pretty quickly so if i get my engine back in the next few weeks will hope to have the car completed by mid to end aug ready for its
track debut,
cheers for the feedback as usual
