Blade Clutch Saga Continues
Having fitted all new plates and inner basket
3mth ago. This weekend developed terrible
vibration and noise on letting off throttle, took
the clutch outer basket out to find the springs
have loads of free travel in there housing can
only assume thats not good and in need of
new unit would that be cause of my clunk in
1st as they all do but i have it in 2nd & 3rd
but is it my vibration too?

My standard springs were loose when unbolted, the heavier ones I installed started a bit longer so you had to slightly load up to get the bolts
started.
Always clunks in gears, as you perfect clutchless upshifts all the banging and clattering goes away.
After I stripped and built the diff up and wound the crown wheel into the pinion I got rid of a lot of noise.
Nasty vibration would indicate a loose propshaft to me, does it shake in neutral? If not look further down the transmission.
On mine the centre bolt on the adaptor sheared once
Adaptor bolt broken
Thankfully it did not fly off just noticed as I was loading on the trailer.

Presume you mean the damping springs in the back of the basket, not the clutch spings clutch springs?
i cant remember if they are really tight set or not.
I have a spare I can check tomorrow evening if it helps

Hmmm springs in the back of my housing are tight, same on the three engines I have had.
I believe these can be modded to remove and replace with a steel plate, best drop Andy a mail on this.

Yes springs on the back of the basket they
all move very freely in fact rattle when shaken.
Does anyone know if a 2001 954 use the
same basket, no way can my old one go back
in and a new one is £340 + vat
