The importance of a sump gasket.

Well you may have guessed. i dropped a bollock.

put my sump back on a few months ago on my zzr1100 without the gasket. yes i dont know why i did that but i did.

anyway this weekend was the exciting bit of filling it with oil for the first time and hey presto its pissing out of the sump seals lol

so i have got the new sump seal but i need to fit it. not sure how easy that will be with the engine in the car and the car in the garage.

pooooop

Well, it could have been worse, at least it wasn't pouring out the sides with the gasket installed

although still a pain in the arse.

now i need to clear it up cos i had nothing to slide under car to stop it leaking till i found jack n jacked it up n found a bucket .....

I must have installed about a dozen of these gaskets, some in situ.

To be honest, they aren't too bad, the gasket has lots of holes in it, where the sump bolts go through. So that usually holds it all in place.

Have you got the Haynes manual for the zed? It mentions using locktite on some of the bolts. If you look at the sump there is a tiny < next to some of the bolt holes. Use locktite on those ones. It also mentions using a smear of silicone sealant where the sump narrows ) ( in a semi circle.
