what kind of engine? or is R1 the default these days?
I built an airbox from folded aluminium, which I like.
Air_box_installed
It is big (to slow down the air), includes a filter, has a cold air feed from the front of the car, and secondary injectors.

Also its got a window so I can see the fuel firing in.
I get higher MAP values than I did with the old suzuki airbox, so it seems to work. Subsequent to the thread I have insulated it with a sheet of
aluminized bubble wrap, and the air temps go to about 4deg C above ambient. I could improve it further with a better feed pipe (i.e. insulated).
Some folk build them out of fibreglass, but I was worried about the fuel from the secondaries getting onto it.

Which 2008 motor are you using? Suzuki,Yamaha,Honda, Kawasaki?
If it is a 2008 engine, one would assume that it is injected.
If it can't be fixed with a hammer then its probably an electrical problem.

That is a rather nice air box, and without the need for any welding, I'm very impressed
