R1 5VY wiring - what tricks are required?

Just about to embark on the wiring, something i am not confident with. When i did my old zx9r i had to put a resistor in the ignition switch and ground out the side stand, so expecting the same plus more on this. I have the original bike loom, ecu etc. I want to get the engine running before hacking the loom about, so other than plugging it all in, what extra things do i need to do, i.e. immobliser, side stand etc?

nothing fancy needs to be done just the usual side stand, clutch switch, thats if you have a usa loom/ecu? UK will have immobliser so would need the coded keys

where did you get the loom/ecu?

Rob Collingridges site is your friend with the wireinghere There's no resistors needed as long as you have a US ECU. Just the sidestand, clutch and neutral switches to deal with (all detailed on Robs site), silicone up the tilt switch, plus the EXUP. Either keep the motor wired in and stashed away somewhere or make up BobC's widget heres a linky
Andy Bates told me he has a theory that, just doing away with the EXUP and either fitting nothing in it's place or a resistor may be the cause of the spate of blown 5vy R1's

Cheers guys! Engine and loom kit was supplied by malc so I assume its a US version. is there a check? I have the exup solinoid due to andys theory. Alkso using standard bike pump if that's any advantage.

The widget is a lot lighter than the EXUP motor.
Malc will have supplied a US ECU.
I used a Bosch inline pump (Escort turbo) but the origial one is good. Think it has it's own built in well to stop fuel surge being a problem.

As it's from Malc then will be US ecu so will be fine

you only need the exup valve if your using the bike clocks, or the little box of tricks

ahh i didn't know about the Exup theory, i ran the standard bike clocks so made Bobs box of tricks! if i didn't use the clocks i'd have been tempted not to use anything

If you're not using the R1 clocks it would be worth leaving the clock loom/plug intact and getting hold of a set just to plug in and use for the diagnostic functions. They're very good for that and do a lot of stuff you'd struggle to do otherwise. In addition to giving fault codes, it'll test fire individual coils and injectors and run all the actuators and read all the sensors.

John might still have a set if you haven't.
