just realised ive made a catastrofic plumbing mistake!
After getting the plumbing done last week, and now getting it started something didn't seem right with the running.
Then today, what do i notice, the oil level glass was all cloudy, so dipped it, and there was an alarming amount of white gunk.
So i just decided to drain the oil and see what i get, i almost cried when i saw what was coming out, it was creamy white, and a bit throuthy!
Anyway i have just descovered (i think) what ive done, i have mistook the top oil breather hose for a coolant hose!!!!!
thankgod the coolant hadnt been bleeded, or ran the engine for long.
Engine is a 2008 R1 BTW
So i take if i flush the engine a couple of times with cheap oil, change the filter, and pray its done no damage?
is there anything else i should do, apart from sack myself.

How long did it run and how hard?
You may well have got away with it but...? You have 2 choices. Change the oil, run, change again, (repeat)... then see what happens. Alternative is
strip it down and have a look. In a car engine I say it'll be OK (seen it enough times) but not sure with a BEC.

Bike engine oil only or you will Fubar the clutch, unless yours is a dry clutch.

just checked how much has drained, and i have 6L, so i would say i have about 2L of coolant in there. oh and it is actually pink.
luckily it has only been started 3-4 times for about 15-20 seconds at a time, and only at idle.
so atleast it hopefully shouldnt have got very hot.
so i think i will try flushing it with oil intill it comes back to a nice colour again. and change the filter.

It won't have done it any harm at all, just drain, change the filter and clean the rocker cover and breather, fill with enough cheap low
viscosity oil to provide lubrication run the engine until he oil is hot, change the oil and filter again.

f thats all the running it's had then I agree with BT. Oil and filter a couple of times and you'll be fine.
Don't be suprised if you still get a little steam from the breather or the oil looks a little bit milky after untill it's had a run. They
suffer from condensation when being run in the workshop or short runs anyway and there'll be lots of moisture in there now. Have you modded the
breathers into a catch tank?

Thanks, i will just have to see what its like after changing the oil.
I have not touched the breathers yet.
Oh the other thing i noticed was the oil level was coming on, was this because it was overfull?

Most important thing is to get the oil stonking hot after you change the oil, some water gets into the crankcase as part of normal running, but it is
driven off by getting the engine and hence the oil to a high enough temperature.

Cheers, i will be off to halfords in the morning to get some new oil and filter and give her a good run (after changing the plumbing) lol.
