4th gear problem

Right I know the bladed gearboxs have been talked about a fair bit on here and doing a good search i'm still having problem's getting to the bottom of thing's.

So when I'm in third it won't change fully into fourth first time staying in third but will go on the second push of the button on the Kliktronic gear change and the same when I'm trying to get into fourth from fifth but will when pushed in to gear twice. When I am in fourth it will also go down into third with two pushes' as well. it has never jumped out of gear or misses one with no bad rattle's or anything suspect. This is the only problematic gear.

I have not long replaced the engine so it's no problem if it need's to come out ,plus I still have the old engine after the prop adapter came loose at 70 in fifth gear so I was thinking on having a go at removing the gearbox to see how it all goes together if need's be if the current gearbox has any problem's

Which gearbox is it? I dont know enough about gearboxes to comment, but it might help others to help you.

My guess as it's in the BEC section and he mentions blades it would be a fireblade engine/geabox?

Could it be a set up issue with the kliktronic? i would give Andy a call at AB performance if you get no joy here

sorry posted up in a hurry before I went out the engine is a 97 919 Fireblade and I did think in giving Andy a phone but I know he's a busy guy and thought I would post here first.I don't think it's the Kliktronic system as have had it through every positioning and was fine on the previous engine but my first thought was fault with the gearbox as I have read from previous topic's the box's are the engine's Achilles heal.

Best guess would be either Kliktronic adjustment. The amount of "throw" to engage different gears varies slightly, so whilst it may be setup and work fine engaging 2nd, 3rd etc it might not be quite enough for 4th. Probably works second time because by the time you've done that the engine speed has slowed and it will engage easier.

If not, then bent selector forks?

One thing that I think affected mine before I rebuilt the box for the first time was the gearshift spindle (item 9) seemed quite stiff - possibly slightly bent? Meant that using the hand lever gearchange was fine, but it resulted in just enough resistance against the Kliktronic to not fully push home.

I'm sure Andy can give more thorough advice though - the above is based on having only rebuilt one twice - but that's twice more than I had done 4 years ago!
