New member with r1 questions

Hi, I have just purchased dave shorts Mk Indy r1 off here and require a bit of advice

He has done a lovely job building the car but I'm finding so many cables chopped off I'm worried something on the engine won't be working properly

The car had a flashing oil light which I've fixed and no dash lights which is also done

The speedo does not work which I was told it needed a speedo healer but I think I've read that it should still work but not calibrated?

Here are some wires and plugs I would like identifying

1-this is down on the front of the block

2-now I think this maybe the speedo cables? Where is it ment to go?

3-this looks like an earth to me, this is with the r1 dash plug

4-these two cables are ip the top of the engine

5-this plug is also at the top of the engine

6-some random cables

7-the two reds are just twisted together. Black and blue go to started button. What's the other two?

Thanks in advance

Nick

Hi and welcome to the forum!

You might want to make your avatar a lot small as it takes up half of the screen!

With regards to the wiring, they almost certainly shouldn't be left open like that. They should either go somewhere or be insulated so as not to contact anything else. Its probably worth you tracing them through the loom to work out where they go.

I know nothing about the R1 speedo so im afraid I cant comment on that.

I'm pretty sure the white triangular 3 way connector is the speedo cables. I'm some distance from my car so can't go and check. They should go to the dash loom I guess. If you fit a speedo healer then it goes in line with those cables (if you get a plug and play kit it comes with those 3 pin connectors on it, 1x male 1x female so if just plugs inline).

As computid said it's a bad idea having uninsulated cables left bare like that, they could either short and blow stuff up and long term they will corrode as moisture wicks down the copper...

I would never have left the cables like that, I just don't want to insulate anything till I know it's not ment to be in use.

If that triangular plug is the speedo then where would it have plugged in to as I cant see anything.

I would say a lot of the cut wires are the lighting loom which is not needed but shouldnt be left bare
