Busa SBD Install (Pics)

Just had these bits arrive. I have no experience with dry sumped cars so hopefully will be able to get all the plumbing correct. I am going to try to use the existing clutch actuator too.

The instructions for the kit seem fairly comprehensive but contain no plumbing diagram for either the sump, tank, or catch tank, which would be extremely useful - and seems to be an oversight, especially for the dry sump tank with its four(!) different holes.

The scavenge pump looks particularly well made.

At first glance the inner race of the bearing which supports the large inlet shaft didn't turn promptly with the shaft, so a quick call to SBD and they clarified that they are all like this, and that heat and oil exposure ensures that this isn't a problem.

The kid in me was also hoping for the shiny gold sump pan as advertised rather than a matt black one...

Try this on the SBD site http://www.sbdev.co.uk/Hayabusa/Hayabusa_oil_systems.htm

Cheers, Nick

Thanks.

Progress yesterday - old sump pan came off, water pump, and accusump with all associated hoses. I am using the bottom exit from the dry sump scavenge pump and extending the supports and clutch rod by 10mm in order to use my current clutch slave cylinder, which although not as neat will retain my current clutch feel, and also save buying the billet 200 quid one.

The next big job is the uprated oil pump gear - but at first look it doesn't make sense. It's all very well putting a smaller pump gear on to the engine to get higher oil pump rpm, but then you also need to change the corresponding gear which drives it too surely - which there is no mention of. I will have to ring SBD later.

New telescopic pickup pipe wired on(telescopic pickup added to it later)

However ran into a big problem when offering up the dry sump pan - the Indy chassis doesn't clear it. Huge oversight in the chassis design - they should be made to have adequate sump clearance - it was already tight with the normal sump.

A number of solutions were looked at, including simply moving the engine up by 10mm, but then the manifold would then not clear the frame. So I put the old wet sump back on to protect the engine and then angle grinded part of the chassis, bending it into a triangular section in order to make it fit. If i'm not happy with the strength i'll weld some supporting plates on later. Would do well to bear this in mind in their chassis design.

Anyway time to plot out all the hose lengths and make a trip to think auto to get some made up.
