FN Paddleshift!

Hi guys.

I have been trying to get my paddle shift sorted and I am pushed for room to run rods etc. I think the concept is sound but leverage may be an issue. You really have to pull awfully bloody hard to engage a gear. I havn't tried driving it yet, I have only tried it in the garage with the engine running because I doubt I will be able to use it whilst driving. Here are some pics of how I have done it:

The top lever length vs the bottom is fairly different and wouldn't be helping but I am pushed for room and I'm not sure whether this is my main issue or not.

Any thoughts?

You will always struggle to engage any gear with a BEC if your stood still. Its one thing you learn when out driving, that before you come to a standstill, to make sure your in first before you stop.

Your lever lengths are the wrong way round. Try getting a shorter lower lever or longer upper lever.

Best thing is to fit a cable. Most of us in RGB use cables rather than linkages.

I have a different route for the linkage on my car.

Push / pull rod through the dash on LHS of steering wheel connects to bell crank on a rod which runs across the top of the footwell (mounted on 2 rod ends, its parallel with the front of the footwell)

The other end of the rod has another bell crank at 90 degrees to the first (to change to up/down movement) which operates the gear lever through another push rod

Will try and find a photo later

That's what I meant by being pushed for room. I can't go any longer on the top lever so I am limited. If I go shorter on the bottom lever it will require more movement on the paddles which is another problem. I havn't actually driven it yet and tried it so I will give it a crack tomorrow. If it doesn't work I may have to look at a cable option.

Out of interest, Is it set for push forward to go up or down gear?
