hillclimb classes for 2013. whats required?
hi all. im wanting to get out on the hills next year with a mate whos thinking the same, i will be running the caterham, with road tyres and a full
screen as i dont intend being too cometative comparted to those with huge budgets. but i do not want to fit a reverse gear of any description unless i
really must.
if i dont fit a reverse, what class wil i be in? as ideally id want to go with the road cars and not sports libre type! cheers

You'd be in modified specialist production cars, as that is the only production class that doesn't required a reverse box. That's
basically locaterfields with slicks (what I run in).

Slightly off topic but sort of on topic, what slicks do you hill Billy guys run, they need to work out the box from cold ?
I did a few sprints this year but used 888's I have some x formula Renault slicks I use for track days but there like driving on marbles till
warm, would be zero use on a sprint or hill climb.

A92 or A15 compound Avons mostly. They are like chewing gum and most will overheat after about 2 laps of any circuit.
They come at a price though (£800 a set for the cheapest sizes).

Hi Dan you can run in race car class but you need a race car log book and some fia saftey mods would have to see your car to see what would be
required if it has caterham cage i am sure that will pass

Whilst we are on the subject of classes, im thinking of doing a few next year-
What about a road registered 1.6 7esque car on road legal tyres with an aeroscreeen?
And any idea what competition id face?
Thanks, Mark.

Hi aeroscreen bit of a problem at the moment may be resolved before next season depends on how quick the 1.6 is there are some 1.6 busa,s out there

I have raced in all sorts of cars and formulas over the years but find hillclimbers the most friendly bunch of people in motorsport and you can make
it as cheap or as expensive as your budget will allow

Hi
to be quite honest while you're learning what's what I wouldn't worry about getting beat - as you will anyway, we've all been
there and it'll take a while to learn.
But seeing as you've got the full cage ending up in Mod Prod wouldn't be too onerous as all it'll mean is slightly better seatbelts
required, and you'll be wanting good ones in a busa powered caterham anyway!
Re tyres stick Avon ZZR's on it in A24 compound - that's their road legal cut slick and you'll not be that far off an out and out
competition tyre in any case.
The important bit is just getting out there and having a blast, don't worry about being out and out competitive just enjoy yourself, learn a
couple of venues and have some fun.

If it's a homebuilt chassis then I think in theory you should end up in sports libre against Clubmans racers and group b rally cars. If
it's a manufacturers chassis and 20 have been made then you can run in Roadgoing Specialist Production (in some places aeroscreen would be a
problem), against Westfields, Caterhams, Ginettas etc

Hi there
Have you consider the Caterham Club Championship, I think you'd be in Class 7 for that?
Cheers

But that doesn't change what class/catagory you run in at the event (in case there's any confusion).

True, but if will inform you of what championships you could enter and what cars you'll be running against in the championship
