Bike gearchange
Still brainstorming this project, gear changing has been on my mind, bell cranks and rose joints is obviously what a few of you use, has anybody got
success with using a single cable, possibly something like a auto box shifter cable which allow push and pull actions, something like this--

Mine is a 6mm Teflon lined cable. It had a 5mm one in before but it snapped after few race weekends and test days. Mine came from my cars
manufacturer, Paul at Spire Sports Cars. I believe he can have them done to any size

mmm, Im liking this site, People seem to think along the same lines as I do.
My thoughts on steering wheel wont allow me to use a paddle, so Im going to use a lever in the normal position, my Idea was to mount the lever thru a
cortina void bush and use the bush as the pivot with the void front and back, so I have a self centering lever that has a ease of movement going front
to back, then fit the cable to the underside of the lever coming out of the bush, that way, on the prototype I can alter the shift ratio to suit my
feel.

Easy. any bush will do, as long as you dont add friction or tight bends the lever will still self centre with the gearbox springingness

I used an auto box cable on mine, works a treat and more substantial than a lot of the specialist ones

Cable is a good option. Make sure you can fix a strong bracket at each end of it though, as any flexing will make the change feel less direct.
For my car, I've gone down the route of rods and levers. I couldn't get large radii on my cable, and there was a bit of stiction as a
result. Using rod ends in my setup brings friction to a minimum and changing gear (although isn't moving yet this summer!) is as direct as I can
get it. I was finding false neutral a lot last time the car was on the road, due to a lot of slop in the gearchange mechanism.
I'll post a photo when I've reassembled everything, it might give you some inspiration!
p.s. I've gone for paddleshift but the theory is the same if you want to use a gear lever with rods etc.
