Baffled Fuel Tank
Hi all,
I am looking at doing lots of track days this summer in my new MK Indy.
The problem I have or am going to have is the fuel tank isn't baffled at all.
Will this be a problem for hard cornering etc?
The engine is a 1999 R1 with carbs and I wasn't sure if the carb bowls would be sufficient whilst cornering then refilling on a straight.
My next question if I need to sort something out is, which is the best way to resolve this problem?
New Baffled tank? Fuel swirl pot?
Any suggestions or experience would be greatly appreciated.

It may be a problem, but then it may not - hard to tell, and different circuits will give you different problems
Here is tank on my car - and had no fuel starvation problems:

Depends on the circuit. Keep the tank topped up and it will reduce the possibility.
What type of fuel sender do you have?
If its a mechanical floating one then swirl pot and low pressure pump. If ors electronic straight stick then baffel tank foam blocks will help.
Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

I think it is the R1 sender that is fitted at the bottom of the tank in a little pocket and welded in.
In the near future I am fitting Keihin FCR carbs and think they are mechanical but not sure.

Has your tank got a small sump/lowered part on the bottom that your fuel pick up sits in?

No it doesn't but this is the option I think I am going to go down.
I have the fuel sender screwed into a small welded pocket but isn't deep at all.
If I made this say 3-4" deeper to effectively use it as a sump in effect I should see this being full all of the time then refilling after I
have finished cornering hard.
Its just a theory and not sure if it will work but worth a try I think.

Anyone know whether Jamie Start is still making tanks. (or if Jamie sees this then job is done, please email me about the Anglia tanks).
I had a quote off him at the end of last year and have recently sent through an email to refresh the quote (made a few dimensional changes etc. and
took a bit longer than expected to get to the point where I now am ready to sort this bit of the car out) and haven't heard back from him (only
been about a week though). If anyone is in touch with him can you let him know I have emailed him.

You could try OBP, they will also make custom to your spec Fuel tanks and swirl pots

If you get a lap and hp pump with a swirl pot in between you should be ok, I've run non baffled tanks in race caterhams, 300bhp with slicks and
had no issues. A baffled tank would be an unnecessary expense, probably go towards half a track day. 1 litre plus would be fine
