Turbo BEC - Intercooler?

Building a medium boost GSXR1000 - aiming for 230hp , how critical is intercooling the intake charge going to be do you think?

Thanks,
James

Very.
Read on here using the search and people have seen 15bhp gains by dropping the inlet temp by only a few degrees.

Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

What is the configuration of your engine/turbo system? If you are using standard internals and running close to the limit then I would say intercooling is essential

That's cleared that up then! Standard internals (HG spacer) with a TD04

My blade runs standard compression, 7 psi boost and a decent intercooler with optimax. 135bhp >>> 201bhp

Although bikes have high compression ratio's they are all designed to run on 93ron, adding a plate is not required with mild boost, just better fuel and a cool charge.

Build without, if it pinks add the plate.

Mine ZX9 ran standard internals and compression, 7psi with megasquirt, 97 octane fuel for safety and intercooled. 125bhp to 181bhp with the smallest TD04

Great info - seen a lot of people saying now that standard compression is probably fine - saves pulling the head...

Just make sure you can adjust ignition timing vs boost, running boosted on standard ignition advance isn't wise

Was planning to use a Power commander 5 - they do an ignition module, reckon timing is going to need to be adjusted at boost for this power level?

I know some people get away with it, but I personally wouldn't on a road car.
