BEC first start / how to?
I'm sure that there is a brilliant guide on this somewhere but I just can't find it.
Nearly 7 years after collecting the chassis, I'm almost ready to start my Yamaha R1 engine.
Can folk talk me through the appropriate sequence - it's been nearly a decade since I last went through this.
If memory serves, I should build oil pressure with the plugs out for example but I seem to recall there is more to it than that.
Thanks!

Hi Tim
Take plugs out and turn engine over whilst looking for oil pressure.
It won't be a lot at cranking speed just an indication that you have pressure - a couple of psi or so.
If it doesn't come up After a while it May be air locked - you can slacken the oil filter while
Someone cranks it over - you should hear a hiss of Air followed by a dribble of oil - tighten filter and
Crank Again looking for pressure
If it still doesn't show on the gauge you can try pressurising the breather with an airline whilst cranking - not
Massive pressure just 10 or so psi should do the trick
Done the airline trick loads of times and it never fails
Hope that helps
Andy

Plugs out, fuel pump disconnected or fuse pulled, crank over to build oil pressure, once oil pressure ok, plugs back in etc and make fire. Well only
internally hopefully
Good plan to have a fire extinguisher to hand just in case.

...then put the plugs back sit looking at the start button for a while. Then tell yourself to stop being a wuss and press it!
Give it time to get the oil around before you rev it once it does start.
...and about bloody time!
