cbr vs GSxr1100

i am possibly going to go for a BEC but not sure

But as funds are tight i thought i would do some homework, so not to make as many mistakes.
which would you say is the better engine for a first timer the CBR or GSXR1100.
i read somewhere that the latter was not a good first engine, but could not find why.

other recomendations also appreciated

oh and is it best to buy the whole bike or an engine 'package' with enough to run it.

thanks

p.s. bike engine will be completly different to the diesels i grew up with so i might just put a tractor engine in it.

im not familiar with either engine, but do be careful if you buy a bare engine - you can end up spending a lot of money getting together all the bits you need to make it go! been there, done that.... fortunately it was cheap to begin with!

Gixxer 1100 is an air cooled beast so need to be careful with cooling etc. (likes plenty of air)

Plentiful now as the sidecar guys moved to other engines last year.

Not that well supported in BEC so will most likely need to source bespoke items such as mounts, prop flange, exhaust etc

blade engine is well trodden and everything available off the shelf

Ideally you need to ensure you get the following from the supplier:

Loom
Carbs etc
Engine

i.e. everything you need to start it up. If you source each separately, you run the risk of them being from a slightly different model and not working together

If you're going BEC then I'd thoroughly recommend going down the "less is best" route with regards to weight.

Just my 2p...

The GSXR engines are watercooled and have been for years.
Both the engines you're considering are excellent engines, though for my money, I would probably go for the Honda. They're just that little bit better in all respects.
Here's a guide to buying a bike engine "car kit". LINK.
