ZX10R sump chopped
I've had my sump chopped as it was 50mm below my chassis.
Do I need to make up for the lost volume of oil or should I be ok.
Was wondering if there's such a thing as an expansion tank that can be connected to the sump.
If left as is, I guess just a more frequent oil change would suffice.
Regards
Brad

If you've taken 50mm off thats a significant amount of oil guessing a litre or more at least?
I guess you could extend, that might help with the cooling capacity, depending on the engine etc, but for lubrication I'd agree that you change
it more often.
Have you got it baffled as well?
Just thinking if theres not as much to pick up it could be interrupted on hard corners from surge

Thanks Reman
I filled the offcut with water then measured it.
I was surprised to see it was only 200ml. The engine takes 4 litres of oil. So not a significant loss.
I have a baffle plate to fit once I've sorted the new drain plug.

That’s not too bad then. I pictured in my head a sump 200mm x 200mm x 50mm and that Works out at 2 litres!!

Not sure about the ZX10 but on the ZX9 the norm was to fill to just below the top of the sight glass.
I also fitted a baffle plate sandwiched between the sump and block.

I have a baffle plate to fit.
Going to see if I can use an oil extraction pump. Will save me fitting the sump plug.

Looked at using the oil extraction pump last night.
It was a tight squeeze, but managed to get the pipe passed the clutch basket and into the sump area.
I've measured the amount of material to remove from the oil pick up pipe and because it's plastic it will be a doddle to rework.
So close now to it's long awaited drive out.

CRAP.
I've cracked the corner of the sump.
Think it's down to the fact I'm using 2 gaskets with having the baffle plate in.
Had my fingers crossed it wouldn't leak, but
On the plus side , I've had my eye on a second hand billet sump.
Picking it up tomorrow from a fellow Indy owner.
