Threaded tube for Rod Ends

I want to buy another threaded tube to use for my gear linkage in the Indy as I have modified it a bit and the old tube is a bit short.

Basically I need just the tube that is threaded but am unsure what to order, I see Rally Design do M8 metric male tube but am not sure whether you need to add some kind of insert to make the threaded bit.

Any help much appreciated.

Rich.

Cant you just buy some normal steel tube from B&Q with say a 6mm bore, then weld some 6mm threaded bar or even a cut-off bolt into each end?

Buy a cheap tap and die set and make some. I got a basic one up to m8 years ago and it gets used all the time for odds and ends. It was under £10 and the same type of thing is even less now.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I still need to get the rod though, and drill it and tap it with a female M8, I would get it from B&Q but they don't sell suitable dia rod.

Why do you need to tap the bar as well? Just buy some tube (rather than solid bar), slide the threaded bar or chopped off bolt into the hole and run a weld around to join em together, or as Pete says, buy a tap and die set.

These folks:

http://www.hyperracing.com/

have all sorts of nifty, and inexpensive, bits on their website. Swaged alloy tubes with rh/lh threads at each end around $8.00 US (£3).

I don't know if bike powered mini sprint cars are raced in England but if they are it might be worth looking up some local distributors.

Cheers, Ted

Basically I currently have an aluminium rod which has a female M8 right hand thread in it, into this I screw my male M8 rod ends and make up the rod for the gear linkage.

All I need is exactly the same aluminium rod but about 20-30cm longer.

Unfortunately I haven't got a welder so I really wanted somewhere where I can just ask for a rod of a specific length with the thread or thread insert already in it.

Sorry, for some reason I was picturing a rod with male thread on the end screwing into female rod-ends, I can see your issue now
