R1 gearbox
I have just been looking over my new R1 engine and have a question about changing gear.
Facing the engine with the carbs facing me and the exhaust facing away, oprating the clutch lever with my right hand and the gear lever with my left
I've been trying to change through the gears. Turning the gear lever clockwise makes a nice clunk in the gear box. Turn it again and get 2
cluncks. It won't turn any further. turn it back the other way and get 2 cluncks. again and get 1 clunk, again and get a thud. Won't
turn any further.
Am I doing it right? Shouldn't I find 6 gears? Is there something else I should be doing? Which way do you have to turn it to upshift and
which way to downshift?
Help!

i guess your trying it with the engine stood, if so you will need too widdle the sprocket/output a little as you try n find the rest of the gears,
there all in there.....

From memory Im 99% sure that clockwise = down the gears. As John says you'll need to jiggle the output shaft and still it might not engage them
all. Also, I wouldnt bother trying to pull the clutch if its not running, without a lever I dont think you could physically do it anyway, you'd
just be taking up the slack in the spring.

My zx9's 1 back 1 forward till I turn the prop. You shouldn't need the clutch if it's stood.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

i have a pair of molegrips (actually just the one, but for some reason it seems right to call it a pair!) on the gearshifter, cos i still havent
found a proper lever for it yet!
