answer= when i extended the red/wire from the rectifer to the relay i used a red wire..when conecting it to the relay i treated it as a red and not the red/white

now the problem.. the(proper) red wire coming from the relay ie connect 4 , shortie said goes to postion 1 on the ignition switch..when i do this my dash lights come straight on without the keys even being in...

oh who cares for the minute i got myself a proper engine

thanks to everybody who helped me see the wood through the trees

geoff

Excellent mate!!!!!!!

Is always something silly like that, frustrating but hey it's fixed now!!

As for the red wire from the relay, if it works correctly and the engine fires ok using your original ignition switch setup then just leave it as you had it. It may well be different on yours anyway as you have a premier loom.

Really pleased you got it sorted mate.

Rich.

Great news.
Well done Richard, Gold star.
I still can't understand exactly what was wrong, as the detailed info you gave suggested you had got 12V at the ECU and coils etc. So regardless of wether the ignition switch was wired right or not, it looked like it should have worked!
So double well done to everyone

Next question...................
