Alignment of engine & prop to centre of car
Would I be correct in assuming that the output from the gearbox should ideally be directly in line with the centre of the transmission tunnel and also
square on to it?
Whilst the prop clearly has a UJ at each end, any "imperfections" in a totally straight install will surely be negative.
Thoughts appreciated.

Nope been covered a few times they should be slightly misaligned but each end should be as close to parallel as possible.
The slight misalignment keeps the needle rollers in the UJ rolling freely and prolongs joint life.

I'll need to look again later but on initial looking, I think the output spline is pretty much pointing at the nearside rear wheel and way way
too far towards the offside of the tunnel.

Pic below shows the engine angle compared to the straight edge of the aluminium top panel on the bulkhead.
Its way off but is it OK?
Ideally I need to change this 919 for my 954 but I was thinking of leaving the 919 in there till after SVA.
Really need to get a prop and see how it looks then.

Alignment
From prevoius posts, it seems that the primary shaft in the gearbox and the input shaft of the diff should be parellel and any misalignment should be
within 3 degrees, that is for optimum set up. I think you could exceed 3 degrees if you had to.

Thanks Rich that's excellent.
Yours looks about the same angle, perhaps with a spline adaptor on the output it'll look different, currently it does actually point at the
nearside rear wheel.
There are a few washers are shims on the mounts so I guess I'll whip it all out at the weekend, see if my 954 fits the same cradle (which it
should't) and see if it can be shimmed straighter.
Lots to do, but I'm looking forward to it, only had it a few hours
Shame is -4 outside

my prop runs centrally down the tunnel then angles to the o/s through a prop bearing assy (modified sierra prop) to align to engine and joins via a
slideing yoke/coupling and drive flange all pretty standard bec stuff but works well

Move engine output as far to the drivers side and the rear that it will go.
put a centre UJ un the prop, the misalignment will be shared between the joints
build a wider car than a standard seven so that the engine doesn't have to go in at such an angle.
OK, so maybe you can't do all of these but do what you can and live with the results.
