ZX9R Oil pressure gauge
Anyone fitted an oil pressure gauge to a ZX9r motor? Im trying to but cant get a T piece to fit the engine.
Any thoughts peolpes??

Do not put a T piece in the engine with the two sender units hanging out of it, it will either snap off and leave the thread in there or crack the
block. Attach a small length of high pressure hose into the sender hole/thread and mount the senders on the the chassis.
What scale does your pressure guage read up to? The C2 enginesoil pressure at 4000rpm is 17-26 psi, so most guages and senders aren't sensitive
enough. I have a 0-40 psi, but ass yet have not had the car running so not sure waht the maximum pressure will be.

Ditto MK9R, get a lots hydraulic hose company to make up a 12" length of hose.
Can't remember what mine goes up to but it's high, maybe 70psi???
Call ETB instruments, they'll know, and will have the right parts.

As the others say, best to put the pressure sender on a length of flexible hosing (Think Automotive are good
for these kinda things).
However, don't do this with the temperature sender, as the oil at the end of the flexible hose will stay relatively cold as there is no oil flow
there, so will not represent the true temperature reading. For temperature, the simplest way is to mount it in an oil cooler pipe if you have one, or
mount the sender in the sidewall of the sump after welding in a suitable boss.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i think there are 2 threaded holes in the block for the oil senders, the 2nd one is blocked off normally, so you can
use the original for the temp and the spare for the pressure.
Jasper, what engine are you using? I've just read my previous post and realised i said i was using a C2, i actually have a C1. C2's run at
around 40psi at 4000rpm, and C1's at 17-26. I'm hoping it doesn't go above 40 as i have sourced a special sender that only reads up
to 40!!!

It may do Austen, Im not sure on ZX9s, but I know that at least two of the ZX9 sump's my uncle has done (inc Jasper's), he's put in
a threaded boss for a temperature sender.
Anyway, regarding pressures, I'd hope that the ZX9 goes above 40psi, otherwise that is VERY low for an engine of this type. My blade usually
sits at between 5 and 6 bar (~75-90psi) on track, and I use an SPA digital gauge which is fine going down to low pressures (I see about 0.8bar at idle
when very hot).
BTW Austen, just e-mailed you regarding sump

I forgot to mention the gauge is a mechanical one by Racetech that goes up to 100 psi so the oil reaches right up to the gauge... no sender.

Don't seem to get on this website as much as I'd like anymore - though popped in & saw this.
Believe it or not it's 1/8 npt (yes an imperial fitting on a jap bike) the same as the temperature sender in the head.
On my engine (the C type) there is only 1 of these take offs for the pressure sender but there is a larger core-plug at the end one of the main
oilways. Don't know what thread this is but I'm sure it could be used for a pressure sender. Personally I'd put the oil temp sender
in the sump.
