R1 Coils
I have been out tatting about with my car and doing a few SVA trim covering jobs and my mate popped round and cought me in the act...........
I mean i was sitting in the drivers seat leaning to one side pretending i was hanging tha back end out on a roundabout
He asked if i had started it from the drivers seat, i said yeah,
and proceeded to crank it over and over and over but no joy.
The fuel pump did not run (i didnt check it on the first crank because i expected it to start up) my clear inline fuel filter pre and post pump are
full but during cranking the pump did not fire up either.
The carbs did smel of fuel so i checked for spark.............De De dah
No spark and the coils were hot to touch.
Will the coils normally get hot during cranking?
Since last starting the car up all i have done is wire in the handbrake warning light, wire in the hazard switch and wire in my brake light switch -
none of which should have affected my spark!
if the cols dont normally get hot during cranking then mine may be duff - why i dont know though???

nope
normally coils aren hot!
you can only fry them if you connected them to ground.
but you wont do that! coils are sensitive..
its easyly the case that your coils are now useless.

Its all ok!
I started to take off the bulkhead (ally) to get to the electrics underneath to begin to remove my hazard wiring and any other connections i had made
in the last few days since it was working ok.
Took the panel off and tried starting it...........hey presto it was all ok.
On later inspection it would appear i had pinched the wired coming from the exup motor between the panel and the chassis when i screwed it down.
p clipped it out the way and put the panel back on and its fine
I could feel another 'R1 no Spark' thread coming on!
