Making you own BEC Silencer?

Hi Guys,

I have been thinking about making my own exhaust silencer for that sweet custom look.

I found a possible supplier for the Exhaust Materials and this How To Guide.

Has anyone else made their own or thought about doing this too?

Cheers,

O

I made an extra silencer to quieten down mine, see my photo archive for a pic. It took 5dB out of the measured noise of my car down to 96.7 dB measured at Cadwell Park. To get the noise down, you want as large a diameter and as long a length as will fit.

I did one for my 4A-GE engine...I got the perf tube, packing and ends from milner off road (do a search) and a cheap piece of stainless from a fabricator. I then bent the sheet manually in a roller and welded it all up. Screwed the ends on to keep it re-packable.

I did my own 4-2-1 exhaust for my Blade engine. Satisfaction once complete is great but for the of work and time it takes is unbelievable. If you have the time available then i suggest you do it, if you are tight on time then buy one. Rescued attachment P3200029.JPG

Cost -
About £50 for the pipes/elbows....and £60 to the guy who TIG welded it and did a 12 bar pressure leak test (I just tack welded the pipes using my MIG).. so £110. You you can buy one fro £250/£300....

If you go to a bender/fabricator and bend the pipes I think it will work out cheaper.
