More Bike Engine Emmisions Trouble

I know this topic has been brought up a million times now but i never seem to be able to find the info relating to my car .

I have an ST locoblade that was registered with a 51 plate even though i built it so expected a Q. At the time of its very first Mot it was given a visual for the emmisions in 2001. I have since had it off the road for the last 2-3 years but now it trying to get it back on again and it appears the Mot and emmisions is a complete minefield.

As i said the Car is a 51 plate and the engine is a 98 blade, according to the new rules i dont stick a chance beating the emmisions test. When it was SVA'd i think they put a cat on just for the day, Stuart Taylor / Aries is Over 100 miles from me so trying to borrow a cat is also very difficult. And if it fails on anything else im screwed.

Is there any way to get my dream machine back on the road as im starting to think i should just sell it on a sorn but who would buy it with no Mot

Please Help

Rik

My first thought is to buy/rent/borrow a CAT exhaust.

There are people who lend them out on here, and there are a couple of people that rent them too - I would contact Aries first to ask them for assistance.

You will also need to lean your mixture out considerable I would of thought as well as using the CAT.

You can also buy (or maybe rent) an airbleed piece of kit (don't know much about this myself so I won't pretend I do) that bleeds extra air in and therefore leans out the mixture...

If i can get hold of cat that would be good but not sure i know how to set it all up.

I spoke to Aries and they seemed to be completely unaware of this problem that lots are having. As far as i know there still churning out non cat cars with new reg plates.

I dont really want to buy a Cat as i think i will sell the car onced Mot this whole thing is just putting me off too much

Has anyone else with an ST/Aries Locoblade come across this problem ?

It's not a problem with the ST/Aries it's the problem with the engine you are using (I have the same engine and I'm on an '07 plate )

My car passed the SVA with a rented CAT and an awful lot of fine tuning of the mixture screws (not done by me). I understand that I will have to do this when I go for my 1st MOT. Well, that or get very friendly with my MOT Inspector, and before anyone says anything - Her name is Linda!

Steve

you are a bit too far away from me, but if you don't get anywhere with it and no-one else is closer then I will come over and help you set the car up. You will have to rent a CAT exhaust though and you can do that from Chris of the BEC Owners Club - U2U zxrlocost on here. He may be using it though but I'm sure between us we could sort something!

Have you actually taken your vehicle for an MOT recently??. From your post it sounds as though you haven't.

Just take it for an MOT, you might be pleasantly surprised when it passes.

Theres no need to start worrying until it actually fails on something.

As Hellfire says, find a nice, friendly MOT place.

(I know one place that has a brand new Ford Fiesta parked next to the MOT bay. If you are failing the emissions, the probe has been known to fall out of your exhaust and land in the Fiesta's! Guaranteed pass!)

If you do fail, I'd try to contact MNR mear Harrogate. They have CAT's that they rent out to people building their cars.

It depends on what is written upon the documents, just because its a 51 plate does not mean its has to achieve 51 emmisions standards.

I had a 95 MR2 turbo, this was an SVA'd import if made in the UK would have needed a CAT as post 93. As its was an import it was visual inspection only on the docs from the SVA centre.

Or see if MAC#1 can help.

As above though - go for the mot first and see what happens.

Yeah i should put it in but i guess i just no deep down its not gunna pass and just dont have loads of £50's to keep throwing at MOT's. i do have a local garage that i have spoke to and i may be ok with them, as he mentioned a visual test. Which is ok cos it's not smokey but the smell of the fumes is far far stronger than a standard cars ,Real headache stuff.

How much does a CAT cost to rent just in case it comes to it?

Cheers Rik

IIRC, you can rent-a-cat from the BEC Owners club should you really need to. I think it is £50 + postage to hire, with a refundable deposit of £100.

I still reckon you're worrying over nothing though. Just get it in for an MOT..........
