R1 carbon can and heat
I've got a carbon R1 can (one of Andy W's specials) and I'm wondering wether it'll survive in my Fury's sill. I've
seen pictures of heat damaged ones so was just wondering what people think.

Mine seems to be doing fine so far on a 2l zetec turbo - no sign of heat damage. Passenger's legs are a different story though - I may have to
make a heatshield for it at some point...
Mine does have all the silencing baffles and internal guts torn out though - not sure if that'd make much difference?

A Carbon R1 can is actually made from quite thick aluminium, The carbon is just for decoration,i know this cos i cut the baffles out of mine. reckon
it will survive just fine.

And if it burns the carbon off who's going to see it anyway?

Personally I wouldnt bet on it lasting, mine went crispy after a couple of years due to the heat and that's on the side of a Locost in the free
air.
I also seem to recall someone on the Yahoo list actually having a carbon can catch fire inside a Fury sill, so id keep a very close eye on it if you
do decide to use it.

The plan was to attach a high flow cat' to it and use it for SVA. Then swap it for a streight through stainless box after that, So it'd
only be on for a short while for SVA unless I can't stop playing and not get it back in the workshop!
