blade clutch problems
Completed the car a few weeks ago, great.
But have been having problems with clutch slip at higher rpms, so ordered a set of uprated springs from tts.
Springs here so decided it was time to fit them, had them nearly a week but been to busy having fun driving the car.
Anyway when i took the clutch apart i found that there is quite a lot of wear on the clutch basket and one or two of the steel plates have been
getting over heated and turned blue. (see pics in archive)
There is also some play in the outer clutch basket, not a lot but still i didnt expect any.
Anyone else had problems like this.
Am going to change the clutch basket and bearings when i find out how much they are, may have to wait a while tho' if its going to be a lot of
money.

have u had all the plates out ?
what type of clutch is it ?
have you got a "dished" washer 1st in or last out ?
if so put an extra plate in and ditch that when you re build clutch, slip will dissapear, if your steel plates are blue they will need chaging.
i have a basket if you need one

Yep all plates out 9 friction plates and yes there was a dished washer at the back of them all.
Have to get the steels replaced as some are going blue, will ring around for prices tomorow, know of anywere cheap.
Its a 93 engine by the way, if the basket u have will fit this let me know how much £ u want for it.
Is that standard practice then to replace the dish washer with another plate. (is that a friction plate)

Sounds like you need a kitchen supplier like Wickes. Sorry couldn't resist that. Just looked in the MPS catalogue and a RRP-RRS kit is £42.50.
I'm studying prices of engines at the moment for another project.

make sure you use motor bike engine oil when you replace it ,some car oils use friction modifiers in them to reduce engine wear but they can do that
becouse the clutch doesnt run in oil like on abike

Oil Levels...
also, monitor oil levels like a hawk. Too much (apparently) causes slippage and so does too little!
Hmmm
